A Brief History of Fossil
Fossil Inc was founded in 1984 by two brothers called Tom Kartsotis and Kosta Kartsotis, Fossil has now become a leading player in the global fashion and accessories industry. The company started when Kosta suggested to his younger brother to import moderately priced retail goods which were manufactured in the Far East. Kosta, a merchandising executive, had seen that potential huge profits that could be made from selling such products in the United States.
Tom sold half of his ticket brokerage business which had brought him fame and wealth, and flew to Hong Kong where he hired a local company to manufacture 1,500 wrist watches. He would later sell these watches to US’s stores and boutiques at a profit, thereby establishing Overseas Products International. The name change occurred in 1987.
From the onset, the company recorded considerable success which was driven primarily by the unique “retro” style of its products, which had been created by its lead designer, Lynne Stafford.
